Isolde taking the poison

Edinburgh Players' Tristan and Isolde

Posted 4 Sep 2013

Our image of Isolde taking poison, as imagined by Aubrey Beardsley, is chosen to illustrate this year's 'open rehearsal' by the Edinburgh Players Opera Group of Wagner's Tristan und Isolde.

In Scotland, we have little enough opportunity to hear Wagner's music live, and this rather marvellous event is available  to vistors in Portobello Town Hall.

This is an amateur performance in the traditional sense - the performers are giving up three days for the experience of playing great music, and indeed paying for the privilege of doing so.  For more information, click through our listings here.
