Background

Rather like Rutland Boughton, Holbrooke composed an ambition series of works much influenced by Wagner, but in his case derived from Celtic Mythology. Under the overall title The Cauldron of Annwyn, the three operas were The Children of Don (1912), Dylan, Son of the Wave (1914), and, after a considerable gap, Bronwen (1929).
