Background
The little known Te Deum by Bizet was a student work dating from 1858, when he was living at the Villa Medici after his Prix de Rome win. Rather like his wonderful Symphony in C, this short piece of church music (around twenty minutes) was disregarded by his teachers, and only resurfaced when it was published in 1971. While undoubtedly attractive, it does not seem to have gained popularity since then. It has short roles for two soloists, soprano and tenor.
