India Crawford studied English Literature at the University of Bristol. During her time as a student she directed and produced various plays, including The History Boys (Hiatt Baker Theatre); The Real Thing (The Lady Windsor Theatre); Arcadia (The Redgrave Theatre) and Cecilia (Bristol Old Vic Studio). During her second year she spent a semester studying at Rutgers in New Jersey where she directed a production of Arsenic and Old Lace for the College Avenue Players (Scott Hall).

She was on The King's Head Theatre’s Trainee Director Scheme working under OperaUpClose when she was assistant director of the OFFIE award-winning, contemporary opera Blank Canvas. She has also done some assistant stage managing work: on OUC's acclaimed touring production of The Marriage of Figaro and on Margaret Thatcher Queen of Soho (Leicester Square Theatre). She returned to the King’s Head to assist director Mike Bradwell on the production of a new Richard Cameron play, The Flannelettes. She also jointly manages the programming of theatre, comedy and cabaret for the interdisciplinary, emerging artist’s festival Brainchild. This year there will be the premiere performance of Jane Doe, her new devised ensemble piece.
