Lyon Mackie joined the D'Oyly Carte Opera Company as a principal in 1916, singing Sullivan parts including Colonel Fairfax. By 1920 he was a principal with O'Mara, where his roles included Mozart (Belmonte); Benedict (Hardress Cregan); Balfe (Wilmot Puritan's Daughter); Verdi (Duke of Mantua); Gounod (Romeo) and Mascagni (Turiddu).
