Imre Kálmán.

Born Siófok, 24 October 1882.

Died Paris, 30 October 1953.

Hungarian composer.

Emmerich Kálmán enjoyed enormous success between the wars as an operetta composer second only to Franz Lehár, whose Merry Widow dominated the field following the death of Johann Strauss. His three greatest successes were perhaps The Gipsy Princess (1915), Countess Maritza (1924) and The Circus Princess (1926). The Countess from Chicago (1928) was banned by the Nazis.
