Born Athens.

English tenor.

Of English and Greek parentage, his debut with Sadler's Wells was as Pinkerton. Later roles with the company included Nero in The Coronation of Poppea, Tikhon in Kátya Kabanová, Turiddu, Cavaradossi, Froh and Erik. He sang the Steersman in a TV production of The Flying Dutchman. In the opening season of (English National) Opera North, his roles included Rodolfo, Tamino, Peter Grimes, Don Basilio and Erik.

A live recording has been released of The Coronation of Poppea, in which the title role is sung by Janet Baker, with Raymond Leppard conducting his own edition of the score. The ENO Ring cycle from the early seventies has also been released. Both recordings are on Chandos.
