Karen Slack trained in Philadelphia, at the Curtis Institute. Further experience was gained on the Merola Opera Programme, on the Santa Fe Opera Apprentice Program, at San Francisco Opera's Adler Fellowship Program and with the Ravinia Festival Steans Music Institute. She won the Rosa Ponselle International Competition for the Vocal Arts at the remarkably young age of 18.
Operatic engagements include the New York Met (Luisa Miller); San Francisco Opera (Agnès Sorel The Maid of Orleans); Chicago Lyric Opera (Serena Porgy and Bess); Arizona Opera (Leonora Il trovatore, Alice Ford, Tosca).
Further appearances in the USA are Austin Opera (Aïda); Des Moines Metro Opera (Sister Rose Dead Man Walking by Jake Heggie); Kansas City Opera (Aïda); Madison Opera (Sister Rose); Michigan Opera Theater (Cilla Margaret Garner by Richard Danielpour); Nashville Opera (Donna Anna); New York Carnegie Hall (Agnès Sorel); Sacramento Opera (Violetta); San Francisco Opera Parallèle (Emelda Griffith Champion by Terence Blanchard); West Bay Opera (Violetta, Aïda).
In Europe she has sung at the Bergen Festival (Serena) and with Scottish Opera (Anna Le villi).
