Italian tenor.
Giorgio Berrugi trained initially as a clarinettist and won several international prizes as both a soloist and a member of the Alban Berg Duo. He was also a member of the Orchestra Sinfonica di Roma.
He began to train as a singer in 2007 and made his debut at La Fenice (Rodolfo La bohème). He was a member of the Semperoper Dresden 2010-13, during which time his roles included Donizetti (Nemorino), Bizet (Don José), Verdi (Duke of Mantua, Gabriele Adorno, Gustavus) and Puccini (Cavaradossi). He created Gennaro in Henze's Gisela!. Other appearances include La Scala Milan (Gabriele Adorno), Teatro Regio Turin (Edgardo, Rodolfo La bohème), Verona (Roméo), Naples (Rodolfo Luisa Miller, Alfredo), Palermo (Edgardo, Rodolfo La bohème), Marseilles (Cavaradossi), Valencia (Macduff), Hong Kong (Gabriele Adorno). He has also sung Rodolfo La bohème in Berlin (Deutsche Oper), Hamburg, San Francisco, Salerno, Oviedo, Lausanne and Padua.
His British operatic debut was with the Royal Opera (Italian tenor Der Rosenkavalier) and he also sang the Verdi Requiem in Manchester with Sir Mark Elder and the Hallé.
He has also sung the Verdi Requiem at La Scala and New York Lincoln Center.
