Peter Gijsbertsen trained at the Utrecht Conservatorium, before continuing his studies under Dennis O'Neill and Ira Siff. At Glyndebourne he was the recipient of the 2007 John Christie Award. At the International Vocalists Competition at Den Bosch he won the Lieder Prize and two other awards.

At Glyndebourne he sang the Novice in Billy Budd, also singing the role at the Moscow Bolshoi and Brooklyn Academy of Music. Other appearances include Antwerp (Don Ottavio, Ferrando) and Fribourg (Acis, Tamino).
