Italian bass-baritone.
Sesto Bruscantini had a long career as a notable performer of baritone (and some bass) roles in the Italian repertoire, particularly works by Rossini and Mozart. He also performed several of Verdi's baritone roles with great success.
Bruscantini studied in Rome with Luigi Ricci, making his debut as Colline in 1946, at his home town. He continued to work around various Italian houses, first singing at La Scala in 1949. He also worked regularly at the Salzburg Festival. Appearances in the USA began with his first Chicago performance in 1961.
In Britain Bruscantini was a popular and frequent visitor to Glyndebourne. On company visits to the Edinburgh Festival he sang roles by Mozart (Don Alfonso), Rossini (Figaro, Dandini, Raimbaud); Verdi (Ford) and Wolf-Ferrari (Gil). Additional Festival visits arose with the companies from La Scala Milan (1957) and San Carlo Naples (1963).
Bruscantini worked with Scottish Opera, later in his career, as Germont and Falstaff.
His appearances at Covent Garden included Rossini's Figaro and Gianni Schicchi.
