Born Bologna, 1 November 1825.

Died Venice, 7 May 1889.

Italian tenor and manager.

Giacomo Galvani had a long and successful career both as a tenor, and later, company manager. He trained in Bologna under Gamberini and Zamboni, making his debut at Spoleto in 1849 in Verdi's I masnadieri. However he was considered to be at his best as an interpreter of the bel canto school.

After many years working around Europe, he settled in Moscow, where he taught singing and also managed a touring company in collaboration with a former colleague, the buffo bass Ciampi, with whom he had toured in Britain. In 1887 he retired to Venice.
