Ed Hawkins read music at King's College, London, studying trumpet at the Royal Academy of Music. He graduated in 2001 and played with various orchestras and ensembles across the UK, making a number of recordings. He started singing at the age of 26, studying privately with Russell Smythe and Gary Coward. In 2015 he joined the chorus at Glyndebourne, singing solo roles in Hamlet (Dean) and Cendrillon (Massenet).
He joined English Touring Opera in 2019, his roles including Doctor Macbeth.
