Raffaele Ariè studied at the Sofia Conservatoire. After his debut at the Sofia Opera, he entered the Geneva International Competition and won first prize. He then made his first appearance at La Scala, Milan, which marked the beginning of an international career that took him to all the leading European and American opera houses.
He sang under such celebrated conductors as Furtwängler, De Sabata, Giulini and Serafin, and had a repertory of about 130 works - operatic and concert. In 1951 he created the part of Trulove in the world premiere of Stravinsky's Rake's Progress.
