New Zealand soprano.
Alexandra Gordon was a schoolteacher before taking up singing as a career. While singing with the New Zealand Opera Company she also gained acting experience on television.
She moved to London in 1967 with a Friends of Covent Garden Scholarship allowing her to study at the London Opera Centre. She then toured for a season with the London group of Opera For All, singing Countess Almaviva, Manon and Zulma The Italian Girl in Algiers. She also spent a season in the chorus at the Glyndebourne Festival.
When she joined Scottish Opera her roles with the main company included Queen of Night in two separate productions of The Magic Flute and the Woodbird in Siegfried. With the Scottish group of Opera For All she sang Lady Harriet Martha, Lucia, Tisbe, Catherine The Fair Maid of Perth and Violetta.
