Stefan Anton Reck won the first International Toscanini Competition in 1985 and the nternational Marinuzzi Competition in 1987. He studied with Seiji Ozawa and Leonard Bernstein on a Tanglewood Music Festival scholarship.
He was Music Director of the San Remo Symphony Orchestra (1990-94); the Orchestra Regionale del Lazio, Rome (1994-8) and the Teatro Massimo, Palermo (2000-02). He was also assistant to Claudio Abbado (1997-2000).
His opera engagements include Trieste (Der Ring des Nibelungen, Ariadne auf Naxos); Ferrara (Falstaff with the Chamber Orchestra of Europe); Genoa (Salome); Tokyo (Norma with Edita Gruberová, Lulu; Die Meistersinger); Dresden (Aïda, European premiere of Dead Man Walking, Lucia di Lammermoor); Turin (Le nozze di Figaro, Tristan und Isolde); Venice (Daphne); Munich (Lulu, Norma); Barcelona (Lucrezia Borgia, Lucia di Lammermoor); Hamburg (Norma); Los Angeles (Le nozze di Figaro).
