Gideon Poppe studied at the Musikhochschule in Lübeck and in Karlsruhe. He was a member of the ensembles at the Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe (2009-11) and Staatstheater Kassell (2011-13)
In the 2013-4 season he joined the ensemble of the Deutsche Oper Berlin, where he has sung Mozart (Don Curzio, Monostatos); Beethoven (Jaquino); Rossini (Belfiore Il viaggio a Reims); Donizetti (Cecil Roberto Devereux); Meyerbeer (Faucheur Dinorah); Wagner (Steersman, Vogelgesang); Verdi (Bardolfo); Bizet (Remendado); Puccini (Goro, Harry La fanciulla del West, Pang); Janáček (Janek The Makropulos Affair); Korngold (Young Man Das Wunder der Heliane); Schreker (Scribe Der Schatzgräber); Britten (Lysander).
Other appearances include Hamburg (Four tenor roles Les Contes d'Hoffmann); Karlsruhe Handel Festival (Emilio Partenope); Frankfurt (Boni Die Czárdásfürstin); Cologne (title-role Candide); Munich (Candide); Hanover (Edmondo Manon Lescaut); Leipzig (Pang); Dresden (Trabuco La forza del destino); Vienna Volksoper (Caramello Eine Nacht in Venedig).
He has appeared twice at the Edinburgh International Festival. In London he sang at the BBC Proms Strauss (Second Jew & Slave Salome).
