Wyn Davies studied music at Christ Church, Oxford before joining the music staff at Welsh National Opera. With them he conducted a eide range of operas including Monteverdi, Mozart and Verdi. He also spent two years as assistant conductor at the Metropolitan Opera, New York, and two seasons in Canada at the Banff Centre for the Performing Arts.

In Britain, he has worked with most of the opera companies, and prepared an edition of The Beggar's Opera for Opera Northern ireland and the Buxton Festival. At Buxton he conducted Verdi's Un giorno di regno and Rossini's Turk in Italy. He was also Musical Director for the Carl Rosa company, where his repertoire included The Mikado and Die Fledermaus. Performances with ENO include works by Mozart and Rossini. With Opera North he has conducted The Barber of Seville and rare musicals including Of Thee I Sing (Gershwin) and Love Life (Weill). For Scottish Opera he has conducted Kátya Kabanová, The Magic Flute, The Cunning Little Vixen, Iolanthe, Die Fledermaus and The Italian Girl in Algiers.

He has worked several times in New Zealand, including on Falstaff and The Italian Girl. Concert appearances abroad include Brussels, Belgrade and Auckland.
