Also Peyo Garazi.
French (Basque) tenor.
Peyo Garazzi's one group of performances with the Royal Opera at Covent Garden was in April 1983, when he sang the title role in the first French-language revival of Don Carlos. This may have been an attempt to freshen up the famous 1958 Visconti staging in one of its last appearances. The rest of the cast included Stefka Evstatieva, Livia Budai, Thomas Allen and Robert Lloyd.
His single Edinburgh performance was as a stand-in for Domingo in the famous 1977 Carmen production.
He sang in a London concert at the Royal Festival Hall in October 1982 in The Damnation of Faust with the LSO under Colin Davis. The other soloists were Janet Baker, Simon Estes and John Tomlinson. He had previously (May 1981) sung the part in New York (Carnegie Hall) with the Chicago Symphony under Georg Solti, with Frederica von Stade, José van Dam and Malcolm King.
His recordings include First Gravedigger Hamlet (Ambroise Thomas - with Joan Sutherland, Sherrill Milnes, cond Richard Bonynge).
