Marjory Kennedy-Fraser CBE

Died Edinburgh, 22 November 1930.
Scottish singer, composer and teacher.
Marjory Kennedy-Fraser played an important role in making traditional Gaelic song available to a wider audience. She visited the Hebrides, where she was impressed by the range of folk-songs that she heard. Realising that these were in danger of being lost, she collected many, and prepared English-language performing versions which she sang for many years.
The songs include the following: The Cockle Gatherer; A Fairy's Love Song; An Island Sheiling Song; An Eriskay Love Lilt.
