English mezzo-soprano.
Sheila Rex trained at Leeds College of Music. After a period with Carl Rosa, she joined Sadler's Wells, appearing in a wide range of works, including Hansel and Gretel, The Marriage of Figaro, The Merry Widow, Peter Grimes, Orpheus in the Underworld, Il Trovatore, Cavalleria Rusticana and Tales of Hoffmann. Her roles in the first season of (English National) Opera North included Juno in Orpheus in the Underworld and Mary in The Flying Dutchman.
With the English Opera Group she toured to Holland, France, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Czechoslovakia and Russia.
Her recordings include Mrs Herring in Britten's recording of Albert Herring and Mrs Noye in Noye's Fludde.
