Born Annemasse, 26 June 1914.
Died Stuttgart, 8 September 1974.
German tenor.
Wolfgang Windgassen was probably the most consistently successful heldentenor in the decades after the war, singing most of the heaviest Wagner roles with great success. The lyrical quality of his voice also allowed him to sing a range of lighter roles with success, including Tamino.
