Simon Thorpe trained in London at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama then at the National Opera School, reaching the final of the Kathleen Ferrier Competition.

With Scottish Opera he has sung Belcore, Pacheco (Inés de Castro), Escamillo, Marullo and Baron Douphol. He has also worked with Welsh National (Scarpia, Telramund, Escamillo); Opera North (Michele Il tabarro); Holland Park (Jack Rance, Manfredo (L'amore dei tre re); Longborough (Falstaff, Don Pizarro) and Edinburgh Festival (Melot).

Appearances in France include Toulon (Herald Lohengrin) and Opéra de Baugé (Amonasro, Sharpless).
