Stella Doufexis Suggest updates

Greek-German mezzo-soprano.

Stella Doufexis studied at the Berlin Hochschule der Künste. Her teachers included Ingrid Figur and Anna Reynolds, and she worked in masterclasses with Aribert Reimann and Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau.

Her first operatic contract was at Heidelberg, where she appeared in the German premieres of The Second Mrs Kong (Birtwistle) and The Marriages Between Zones Three, Four and Five (Glass). Other parts there included Cherubino, Hänsel, Nicklausse and Rosina. Moving on to the Komische Oper, Berlin, she created the title role in Christian Jost's Hamlet, and also sang Dorabella, Octavian, Carmen and Xerxes.

Her only operatic appearances in the UK were as Octavian with Scottish Opera. She also appeared in concerts or recitals with the BBC SO and the LSO, at Aldeburgh, the Proms and the Wigmore Hall.

Recordings include Falstaff with Claudio Abbado as well as lieder by Clara Schumann.
