Italian tenor.

Umberto Grilli studied with Adelaide Saraceni and made his operatic debut at the Teatro Nuovo,  Milan.

His repertoire included many operas by Rossini, Donizetti,  Bellini and Verdi.  He also sang in works by Haydn (L'infedeltà delusaLe pescatrici);  Ponchielli (Enzo La gioconda);  Boito (Faust Mefistofele);  Massenet (Des Grieux Manon);  Puccini (Madama Butterfly La rondine).

He appeared at all the leading Italian opera houses under such conductors as Gavazzeni,  Sanzogno and Schippers..  Outside Italy he sang in Paris,  Madrid,  Osaka and Buenos Aires.

In Britain he appeared at Glyndebourne and made two visits to the Edinburgh Festival.
