Frances Ginsberg had a notable career as a performer of the leading roles of Verdi and Puccini, performing mainly in the United States. She made her debut in 1991 at Cincinnati, as Amelia in Un ballo in maschera, returning for Leonora in Il trovatore. Other appearances in the United States include Cio-Cio-San and Magda (La rondine) at Houston, and Marguerite (Faust) in Miami. Further Verdi roles include Lady Macbeth at Salt Lake City and Giselda (I Lombardi) at New Jersey Opera.
Her European debut was also in Verdi, singing Elvira in Ernani and Elena in I Vespri Siciliani at Nice. She first appeared in Britain as Mimì with Welsh National Opera, following that with Norma in Scotland.
