Scottish Designer.
He studied engineering, sculpture and theatre design before working as assistant to Ralph Koltai, during which time he worked frequently with Scottish Opera. He designed over thirty plays at the Open Space Theatre in London. Other theatre work included Ben Jonson's Bartholomew Fair at the Roundhouse and Somerset Maugham's For Services Rendered at the National Theatre.
He worked with many ballet companies, including Scottish Ballet, New London Ballet, Ballet Rambert, and Harkness Ballet in New York, and he was one of fifteen theatre designers chosen for the British entry at the 1979 Prague Quadrienale.
His operatic designs include Macbeth and Musgrave's Mary, Queen of Scots for Scottish Opera, and Les Mamelles de Tirésias, The Marriage of Figaro and The Flying Dutchman for Opera North. He also designed Eugene Onegin at Aldeburgh, Fidelio at Oxford, and Albert Herring in Oslo.
