Italian soprano.

Francesca Sassu studied at the Sassari Conservatory and attended masterclasses with Raina Kabaivanska, Renato Bruson, Natale de Carolis and Barbara Frittoli.

Her appearances at Italian opera houses include La Scala Milan (Suor Genoveva Suor Angelica, Nella Gianni Schicchi); Teatro Regio Turin (Farzana/Corifea Casella's La donna serpente); Venice (Xenia Boris Godunov, Musetta); Verona (Madama Cortese Il viaggio a Reims, First Lady, Norma); Naples (Micaëla); Cagliari (Mimì); Parma (Leonora Oberto); Rome Caracalla (Micaëla); Ravenna (Magda La rondine); Rovigo (Musetta, Amelia Simon Boccanegra); Bari (Mimì, Hanna Glawari); Pavia (Musetta); Pisa (Magda); Novara (Liù, Madama Cortese); Como (Musetta); Spoleto (Antonio in Cimarosa's Cleopatra); Stresa (Elettra Idomeneo).

International appearances include Salzburg Festival (Contessa di Sarzana in Paisiello's Il matrimonio inaspettato with Riccardo Muti); Tokyo (Leonora Oberto); Beijing (Violetta).

She made her first appearance in the UK at the Edinburgh Festival 2006 as Albina La donna del lago, which was also recorded by Opera Rara. She returned to Edinburgh in 2017 singing Mimì and Musetta on consecutive days.
