Baritone.
Richard Burkhard studied at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama with Patricia MacMahon and Carolyn Coxon before graduating with distinction. He later won a bursary to study with Carlo Bergonzi in Siena. He is also a previous recipient of the Decca Prize at the Kathleen Ferrier Vocal Awards and winner of the Royal Overseas League singing competition.
While a student he appeared at the RSAMD as Somnus in Semele, and then worked at Haddo House. He also returned to Scotland with English Touring Opera (Papageno, Harlequin). Appearances with Scottish Opera began with the Poet, Dreamycloud & Vašek The Adventures of Mr Brouček. followed by Papageno and Dandini.
Other operatic engagements in the UK include English National Opera (Mahmoud The Death of Klinghoffer, Marcello, Falke, Garibaldo Rodelinda); Opera North (Sir Despard Murgatroyd Ruddigore, Nikita The Portrait, Kruger Let 'em Eat Cake); Opera Holland Park (Malatesta Don Pasquale, Figaro Le nozze di Figsro. Michonnet Adriana Lecouvreur, Count Gil Susanna's Secret); Royal Albert Hall (Sharpless); Royal Opera House (Tolstoy Sevastopol by Neil Hannon, Enrico Hot House , both in the Linbury Studio).
