Hungarian bass-baritone.
Jozsef Dene studied in Budapest, and was a member of the Hungarian State Opera for several seasons. In 1970 he began to work with the opera company in Zürich. His twenty years with them included a wide range of roles, including a European tour with the cycle of Monteverdi operas.
Other houses with which he made guest appearances included San Francisco and the Met in the USA, the Berlin Komische Oper and Bayreuth Festival in Germany, the Paris Opéra and La Scala Milan. His repertoire was versatile, including works by Monteverdi, Mozart, Rossini, Verdi, Wagner and Berg. Contemporary work included roles by Reimann, Boehmer and Cerha.
