Canadian director, librettist and translator.
James Conway is General Director of English Touring Opera. His production of Britten's A Midsummer Night's Dream (performed by ETO in 2004 and revived in 2010) was nominated for an RPS Award. He directed the world premiere of Promised End (Alexander Goehr 2010). Other operas he has directed for the company include Mozart (Marriage of Figaro, Clemenza di Tito), Puccini (Tosca, Il tabarro), Donizetti (Maria Stuarda, Anna Bolena, L'Assedio di Calais), and Janáček (Jenůfa, Kátya Kabanová), as well as Eugene Onegin and Simon Boccanegra.
He has also worked with the London Handel Festival, De Vlaamse Opera and the Canadian Opera Company amongst others.
He has written original libretti for two operas, and translated three.
