English soprano.
Gwen Catley was a famous soprano in the fifties. She made frequent appearances on radio and in popular live theatre, by this time known as 'Variety' rather than 'Music Hall'. When she was not occupied with the numberless performances of Rigoletto up and down the country with Carl Rosa, she often sang Gilda's famous aria 'Caro Nome (Dearest Name)' in variety theatres - twice nightly.
