Myrtò Papatanasiu studied at the Thessaloniki Conservatory. then in Milan with Roberto Coviello. Her debut was at Thessaloniki in Monteverdi's Combattimento.
She has sung in many Italian houses, including Rome (Nedda, Violetta, Tosca, Alice Ford); Bologna (Malwina in Marschner's Der Vampyr); Verona (Fiordiligi) and Genoa (Fiorilla, Donna Anna). In Vienna (Theater an der Wien) she has sung Sifare (in Mitridate, re di Ponto) and Donna Anna.
Her appearances in Belgium include Brussels (Sifare) and Vlaamse Opera (Fiordiligi, Semiramide). In Germany she has performed in Munich (Violetta), Berlin Staatsoper (Countess Almaviva) and Wiesbaden (Fiordiligi). She has made concert appearances at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam and Accademia di Santa Cecilia in Rome, as well as Sydney, Zurich, and Catania.
Her British debut came in 2009, when she sang Violetta in David McVicar's staging of La traviata for Welsh National Opera. This was followed by the visit of the Vlaamse Opera Semiramide production to the 2011 Edinburgh Festival.
Subsequent performances include Violetta in Dallas, Montreal, Geneva and Oviedo; Donna Anna in Vienna (Staatsoper) and Paris (Théâtre des Champs-Élysées); Alcina in Stuttgart, and Rusalka in Brussels.
