English tenor.
Charles Neville was a lyric tenor who sang for several seasons with Carl Rosa and later joined Joseph O'Mara's company. He was able to sing some of the more dramatic roles, including Tannhäuser and Manrico, presumably at a time when orchestras were smaller.
His repertoire ranged through Mozart (Monostatos); Balfe (Thaddeus); Wallace (Don Caesar); Benedict (Hardress Cregan); Wagner (Tannhäuser); Verdi (Manrico); Nicolai (Fenton); Thomas (Wilhelm Meister); Boito (Wagner & Nereo); Puccini (Des Grieux); Mascagni (Turiddu).
