American soprano.
Kristine Ciesinski was an excellent dramatic performer with a particular reputation for performing twentieth century works.
Her international career took her to major European houses including Milan La Scala; Paris Opéra, Brussels La Monnaie, St Petersburg Mariinsky, Munich Bavarian State Opera and Frankfurt. She also sang in Buenos Aires (Colón).
In Britain she sang with Scottish Opera (Donna Anna, Anna Maurrant Street Scene) and ENO (Anna Maurrant, Lady Macbeth).
Important roles included Salome; Judith Bluebeard's Castle; Emilia Marty; Marie Wozzeck; Katerina Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk. She also sang Mozart (Donna Anna) and Verdi (Lady Macbeth).
Her recordings include Street Scene with ENO.
She was a qualified glider pilot, and died in a flying accident.
