Michael Bracegirdle is a graduate of Durham University. He started his professional career as a Chartered Accountant, working in industry for several years. In 2003 he began vocal studies in Manchester at RNCM. He was winner of the Emmy Destinn Award for Young Singers (2006) then a prize winner in the Mezzo Television opera competition in Hungary. This led to him taking the role of Judge Danforth in a 2008 staging of Ward's The Crucible with Dicapo Opera Theatre in New York, repeating the part in Hungary at the National Theatre, Szeged.

He has worked with many of the leading British companies, including ENO (Tamino), ETO (Števa, Cavaradossi, Lensky, Lysander, Tamino, Kudrjas) and Scottish Opera (Boris Kátya Kabanová). Other appearances include the Royal Opera (Linbury Studio), Stowe Opera (Don José); Opera Holland Park (First Armed Man The Magic Flute, Ruiz Il trovatore); Mid Wales Opera (Don José, Rodolfo, Jeník); Longborough Festival Opera (Lysander, Lensky); Chelsea Opera Group (Malcolm Macbeth); Clonter Opera (Alfredo) and OperaUpClose (Don José).

European appearances include Limoges (Laca, Prince in L'Amour des Trois Oranges) and he has also sung Laca in Rennes and Reims.
