David Rendall studied in London, at the Royal Academy of Music, and in Salzburg.
His debut with the Royal Opera Covent Garden was in 1975 (Italian Tenor Der Rosenkavalier),and he quickly returned as Don Ottavio. Later roles there included Rossini (Count Almaviva), Verdi (Duke of Mantua), Puccini (Rodolfo) and Strauss (Flamand Capriccio).
Appearances at English National Opera included Donizetti (Leicester Mary Stuart), Verdi (Alfredo) and Puccini (Cavaradossi, Pinkerton).
He appeared with Scottish Opera (Cavaradossi) and at Glyndebourne.
Operatic work abroad included appearances throughout Europe (including Arabella at La Scala, Milan). He worked in the USA (New York, San Francisco, Santa Fe), Canada (Ottawa); South America (Buenos Aires, Caracas), Tel Aviv and Teheran.
Concert repertoire included Mozart (Requiem), Beethoven (Missa Solemnis), Berlioz (Damnation of Faust), Elgar (The Apostles) and Britten (War Requiem).
Recordings include Handel (Ariodante); Mozart (Così fan tutte, Requiem); Beethoven (Missa Solemnis); Donizetti (Maria Stuarda); Puccini (Madam Butterfly); Elgar (Apostles).
