Russian baritone.

Alexey Gusev graduated from Rostov State Conservatoire with a degree in Voice, Opera and Concert Singing. He joined the Rostov State Opera and Ballet Theatre as principal baritone, remaining for 7 years.

He was a prize winner at the inaugural Rachmaninov International Singing competition. He then moved to Glasgow to train at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. His first appearance in Scotland was in 2010, in the role of Napoleon in the world premiere of Prokofiev's first version of War and Peace. This production was part of an international collaboration between the RCS, Scottish Opera, the Rostov State Rachmaninov Conservatoire and the Russian Cultural Centre.

In 2013-14 he spent a season as principal baritone with the Astrakhan State Theatre of Opera and Ballet. Alexey's operatic roles include Papageno (Magic Flute), Yeletsky (Queen of Spades), Almaviva (Marriage of Figaro) and Valentin (Faust).

While at RCS he appeared in operas by J Strauss (Die Fledermaus), Milhaud (Les Malheurs d'Orphée) and Walton (The Bear). In Autumn 2017 he joined Scottish Opera as an Emerging Artist, making his debut in Tchaikovsky's Iolanta before touring the country in the Opera Highlights team..
