Giles Tomkins trained at University of Toronto (MMus in Operatic Performance), then on the Britten-Pears Young Artist Programme, This was followed by study at the Chautauqua Summer Opera Institute, Banff Centre for the Performing Arts, and the Oberlin a Casalmaggiore summer vocal programme in Italy. He was the winner of Scottish Opera's John Scott Award for 2005.
With Scottish Opera he sang Colline (with Opera on Tour) and Don Basilio, followed by Pistol.
His Mozart repertoire includes Don Alfonso and Figaro. He has also sung Supt Budd (Albert Herring), Simone (Gianni Schicchi) and Somnus (Semele).
He has performed frequently with the Aradia Ensemble in Toronto, and recordings with them include Rameau's Castor et Pollux as well as concert works by Charpentier and Vivaldi.
