Born Paris, 21 January 1855.
Died Limay, 10 June 1899.
French composer.
Ernest Chausson came from a wealthy family background and studied privately under Cesar Franck. He composed three operas, of which the third, Le roi Arthus, was performed posthumously. His small output of compositions was small, much influenced by Wagner. Two attractive orchestral works survive in regular performance, a Poème for violin and orchestra and an extended piece for voice and orchestra, Poème de l'Amour et de la Mer.
