Gabriel Urbain Fauré

Born Pamiers, 12 May 1845.

Died Paris, 4 November 1924.

French composer.

While Fauré's two operas were quite successful in their day, only Pénélope seems to survive even on the fringes of the modern repertoire. He is far better remembered now for his piano music (including charming Barcarolles) and songs. Most popular of all in performance is clearly his beautiful, consolatory Requiem.
