French conductor.

Jean-Yves Ossonce has appeared regularly in the UK since 1991, working with the various BBC orchestras, as well as opera companies including both English and Welsh National, where he made his debut with The Magic Flute.

He was appointed director of the Grand Théâtre de Tours in 1999, which involved being Chief Conductor of both the Tours Symphony Orchestra and the Opéra de Tours. He also works at several of the leading French opera houses, and has conducted at Trieste (Hamlet), and Lausanne (Così fan tutte).

Concert work includes appearances with major orchestras in Korea, Belgium, Holland, Germany and Poland. His numerous recordings are a rewarding group, largely of rare works by little-known French composers, including Chabrier, Massenet, Hahn, Guy-Ropartz and Magnard.

His first Edinburgh appearance was in 1994, with a concert performance of Chabrier's unfinished grand opera Briséis, (which was recorded). He returned for a concert performance of Fauré's Pénélope in 2000, and brought his Tours company with a staging of Messager's delightfully frivolous L'Amour Masqué in 2005.
