English soprano.
Marilyn Hill Smith studied in London at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama.
She spent five seasons as a principal with English National Opera. Her debut at Covent Garden came in 1981. Other British companies she has appeared with include Welsh National Opera, Scottish Opera and New Sadler's Wells Opera. She worked frequently with D'Oyly Carte and also sang Gilbert and Sullivan parts with other companies, including the Scottish National Orchestra.
Her roles with the English Bach Festival include works by Purcell (Belinda Dido and Aeneas, Cupid King Arthur), Handel (Agilea Teseo), Rameau (Aricie Hippolite et Aricie, La Folie Platée) and Gluck (Euridice Orphée et Euridice).
