Australian tenor.
Samuel Sakker has sung leading roles with Opera Australia, West Australian Opera, Opera Queensland, Melbourne Opera and New Zealand Opera. He made his Edinburgh Festival debut in 2010 in the Opera Australia production of Brett Dean's Bliss. His first appearance with Scottish Opera was in 2019 as Tikhon Kabanov.
In London he was a Jette Parker Young Artist for the Royal Opera (2014-16) and a Company Principal (2016/17) and continues to appear there. Roles at the Royal Opera include Verdi (Abdallo Nabucco, Barbarigo I due Foscari, Malcolm Macbeth, both Gastone and Alfredo La traviata, Ruiz Il trovatore, Mainfroid Les Vêpres siciliennes); Wagner (Heinrich Tannhäuser, Eisslinger Die Meistersinger); Puccini (Pang Turandot) and Shostakovich (roles in The Nose). He also sang tenor solo in Mahler's Song of the Earth for the Royal Ballet and the Mozart Requiem on the Royal Opera's tour to Japan.
Work elsewhere in Britain includes ETO (Cavaradossi); BBC SO (James Nolan Doctor Atomic) and Cambridge University Opera (title role in the premiere of Liszt's Sardanapalus).
Other appearances include Erik Der fliegende Holländer with both Cape Town Opera and Netherlands Opera.
