Czech bass-baritone.
Adam Plachetka studied at the Prague Conservatory, and joined the company at the National Theatre in 2005. He has since developed an extensive Mozart repertoire, including Masetto, Publio, Figaro, Don Giovanni, Guglielmo and Nardo (La finta giardiniera). He also sang Argante in Handel's Rinaldo. At the historic Prague State Theatre he has appeared as Don Basilio in Il barbiere di Siviglia and as Papageno.
He appeared at the 2007 Salzburg Festival as Pompeo in Benvenuto Cellini (conducted by Gergiev) and has also sung there as Masetto, Antonio (Le nozze di Figaro) and the Huntsman (Rusalka). Other opera engagements have taken him to Versailles, Nice, Rennes, Caen, Luxembourg, Brussels, Munich and Seoul.
In 2010 he became a member of the Vienna State Opera, where his roles have included Masetto, Publio, Don Giovanni, Don Basilio, Haly (litaliana in Algeri), Dulcamara, Melisso (Handel's Alcina), Hercules in Gluck's Alceste and Dominik in Arabella.
