Liane Keegan studied in London at the National Opera School on a scholarship from the Opera Foundation Australia. In Australia her roles included Azucena with Opera of South Australia and Ulrica with Opera Australia. She appeared as First Norn at the Perth International Arts Festival, and as Erda, First Norn and Waltraute in Adelaide.

Roles with ENO include First Norn and Offred's Mother in The Handmaid's Tale (UK premiere). In Germany, a contract at the Hagen opera included roles such as Klytemnestra, Mistress Quickly, Brigitta (Die tote Stadt), Begbick and Venus. Concert performances of opera include Barbara in Korngold's Violanta at the BBC Proms, Gaea in Daphne at the Concertgebouw, First Norn with the Sydney Symphony, and Second Maid in Elektra at the 2006 Edinburgh Festival.
