Welsh-Irish baritone.
After studying at St Catherine's College, Oxford, Phil Gault moved to Glasgow, where he trained under Alan Watt at RSAMD and privately with Patricia MacMahon. He gained a scholarship from the Samling Foundation.
He made his Scottish Opera debut in the second series of Five:15 mini operas in 2009, making his first Edinburgh Festival appearance in the concert performance of Fanciulla del West the following year. Other appearances in Scotland include Tarquinius (Opera on a Shoestring) and the title roles in Nabucco and Macbeth (Edinburgh Grand Opera).
His operatic repertoire also includes Dandini, Figaro (Rossini), Junius, Nick Shadow, Count Almaviva and Escamillo. Other appearances include Squire Western in Philidor's Tom Jones at Dartington and Thésée in Rameau's Hippolyte et Aricie with Welsh National Youth Opera. With Heritage Opera his roles incle Angelotti and Don Giovanni. He has also covered roles for Scottish Opera and at the Buxton and Northampton Festivals.
He has an extensive concert repertoire, appearing with choral societies around the UK.
