Scottish soprano.

Julia Goss grew up in London and studied at Trinity College of Music. In 1967, while still a student, she joined the chorus of the D'Oyly Carte Opera Company.

She quickly graduated to solo roles and when Valerie Masterson left the company in 1969 she became their lead soprano.  Her repertoire included Aline The Sorcerer; Mabel The Pirates of Penzance; Lady Ella Patience:; Yum-Yum The Mikado;  Rose Maybud Ruddigore; Elsie Maynard The Yeomen of the Guard and Casilda The Gondoliers.

She left D'Oyly Carte in 1979.  Joining the Old Vic Theatre Company for a season, her roles included Countess Almaviva The Marriage of Figaro; Norina Don Pasquale; Marguerite Faust and Micaëla Carmen.

Her later career was mainly in musicals, both in London and on tour.  These included White Horse Inn, Fiddler on the Roof, The Boy Friend, The Phantom of the Opera, Kiss of the Spider Woman, A Little Night Music and Follies.

She performed her cabaret act in Monte Carlo, on cruise ships and on tours.

Recordings with the D'Oyly Carte company include Plaintiff Trial By Jury; Casilda The Gondoliers; Princess Zara Utopia Limited and Julia Jellicoe The Grand Duke.
