South African tenor.
Niel Joubert attended Drakensberg Boys Choir School before studying in London at the RAM where he was generously supported by the Ernest Oppenheimer Memorial Trust, SA Arts Council and various RAM bursuries. He was a finalist in the 2012 Handel Singing Competition.
At the Glyndebourne Festival his operatic roles have included Autumn The Fairy Queen, Parpignol La bohème, and Tantale La descente d'Orphée aux enfers. With the Glyndebourne Tour he has sung Don Curzio Le Nozze di Figaro and Herald Rinaldo. Other roles include Don Ottavio, Pedrillo, Monostatos, Pelléas, Adolphe Die Opernprobe and Hot Biscuit Slim Paul Bunyan.
He has given many performances in oratorio and on the concert platform, and is a member of the BBC Singers Ad Hoc list. With them he has performed numerous world premieres by composers such as Harrison Birtwistle, Thomas Adès and Edward Cowie. Conductors he has worked with include Daniel Barenboim and Richard Hickox.
