Belgian baritone.

Lionel Lhote started his vocal education at the Académie de Musique de La Bouverie-Frameries, before training at the Royal Conservatories of Mons (under Marcel Vanaud and Jacques Legrand) and Brussels.

His international operatic career includes guest visits to many major European houses - Bordeaux (Sharpless); Geneva (Faninal); Orange (Schaunard); Frankfurt (Rivière in Dallapiccola's Volo di notte); Nancy (Don Alfonso); Stuttgart (Dandini) and his debut at the Paris Opéra as Schaunard. He works regularly with the German houses at Giessen (Rossini's Figaro, Father in Hansel and Gretel) and Aachen (Germont and Scarpia).

Appearances at La Monnaie in Brussels include Pandolfe (Cendrillon), Lescaut (Manon Lescaut), Frank (Fledermaus), Mercutio (Roméo et Juliette). Dandini, Enrico (Lucia di Lammermoor) and Sancho Panza (Don Quichotte), the last role also being repeated at Palermo. He also sings frequently in Liège with the Opéra Royale de la Wallonie - where roles include Mathieu in Andrea Chénier, Don Alfonso, Melitone (La forza del destino), Guesler (Grétry's Guillaume Tell) and General Boum (La Grande-Duchesse de Gérolstein).

Roles at Lyon include Albert (Werther), Germont, Leporello, and Don Alfonso. Other operatic roles in his repertoire are leading lyric baritone parts such as Zurga in Les Pêcheurs de perles, Ottokar in Berlioz's version of Der Freischütz, Chorèbe in Les Troyens, Luna in Il trovatore and the title-role in Falstaff. He also sings comic and character parts including Popolani (Offenbach's Barbe-bleue) and the Armchair and Tree in Ravel's L'Enfant et les Sortilèges.
